Shatter

Next to an idol of carved out stone.
The trees, collapsing.
The eyes of man look only towards the heavens.
Sound the trumpets! Rise to the gates!
With streets made of gold,
And fountains pouring forth silver.
Create your heaven of worthless riches.
My heaven is solace, to be unforgiven.
Run to the lake to be baptized, then destroy the surface.
Gaze not at stars but at satellites, dreaming to one day leave here.
If this place you just pass by, why surrender beauty to build your pride?
Why carve a rock into a fading monument?
Why drain the rivers to flood your neighbor's tombstone?
Blessing of the divine anoints your spirit with radiance,
Yet somehow you bury it away and hide it for six days.
And in my current awareness, I see that I too have dwelled in these things.
And when I wake tomorrow, I'll be just the same as you.

Singing silent for the wind to hear me.
Bathe in the stillness of the air,
The whispered sighs of life surrounding.
For a moment I am with you, but it passes and you're gone.
And I'm lying, surrounded by voices.
But I only hear the silence in between each fading breath.
Without you, I am free to die.
Without you, I am free to live, to fall, to fade.
Aimlessly I stumble into fields of amber
To spill my mind among the quiet world.
I hate what I'm becoming, I want it to be over.
I want this wasted life to fade and disappear.

A lifetime passed me by
As I gave you my time to make up for past failures.
I swore I'd make right what was wrong;
I kept my eyes open and swam against gravity.
And now that a life has passed by,
I am held in the light by your praise and your smiles.
And you tell me that you know inside
I am doing much better, I have nothing to hide.
I hope this makes you proud.
I hope you can look at your son and feel joyous.
I hope that I bring you a smile.
Because I'd rather be somewhere doing something worth while.
I guess I have made a mistake.
I guess I have traveled too far down this path.
I hope that one day when I die
You will remember not my work but my song.

Flutter
18:01
|
|||
Swept off our feet
And taken to a tomb
Encased in thinning ice,
Adorned with starving fawn.
A cursed place defaced
By ever prideful man
To take away from eden,
To build to be eternal.
But the soul of man
Flutters to the ground
To rest on rotten oak,
Returning to its roots.
Spawning forth a cascade
Of new life to begin
If not for other men
Snuffing out the life.
Winter shrouds my body
In coldness much forgotten.
I long for this embrace
To carry me away.
To die among the beauty,
Away from brick and steel;
Away from thoughts of hatred,
Of neighbors so afraid.
This soul of mine
Flutters to the ground
To rest on rotten oak,
Returning to it's home.
My pride, my place here:
To build up towers strong.
May God have mercy on my soul,
For I am what I loathe.
Burry me in the snow, so afraid.
Burry me in the snow, so ashamed.
Burry me in the snow, so unscathed.
I am a reflection of my end.
Burry me with the sun, holy one.
Burry me with the moon, holy one.
Burry me with the earth, holy one.
I see nothing left but slow decline.
In the glory of winter my heart will thaw.
